Week 10 EOC: What would you do?

Michael Dorsey is a waiter at a restaurant, but he used to be an actor two years ago. He has not acted since two years ago. Michael Dorsey went to his agent after hearing some news. He wanted to prove to his agent that he can get the role somehow. His agent did not believe him what so ever. What Michael Dorsey did correct was that he did not let anything stop him from getting a role. He dressed up like a woman and he went to the audition. Right before he could fully audition the actor/director told him no, that he was not right for the part.  “…working for the same company for a lifetime are long gone and in some industries having one job for a significant period of time is frowned upon rather than considered an asset.” Michael did not take no for an answer and he stood up for himself. He did not fail to show his disguise, he stayed in costume the whole time. Later on he showed his agent how he got the role and that he was able to achieve his goal in getting the role. “As unattainable as a dream job might sound, with the right amount of forethought and preparation, you can make the move...” What he possibly did wrong was that, instead of telling his female friend, the one who really wanted the role also, he lied to her and did not tell her about him getting the role. Sometimes to achieve your dream job you might need to go above and beyond for something you really want. And that is something that Michael did. To get a big role he had to dress up like a woman and he was able to get the role. “...to conduct a self-exploration and identify possible careers that truly inspire.”

Final: Tag Line

" Work the camera,  don't let it work you."

"With regard to language, different media groups here use different tagline"- Davis and Baldwin page.67

"We tried to make a single tagline work, but had no success"- Davis and Baldwin page.67

Final: Paragraph emphasizing your specialty and your five key talents, weaving in your most important values, passions and skills

I love to act, I love to model*. Photoshop is one of my newest passions along with photography. I am very interested in getting every person who cans an opportunity at making something with his or her lives. Especially women. I believe that every girl has the potential to be something and they also all have beauty whether it is on the inside or out. I love to design clothes and I am very active in starting my own companies and brands. My work on Photoshop has steadily improved and I enjoy making new and more fascinating pictures everyday. I also am very interested in joining the Arm Reserve for the main reason that I want a real life for my self and for my family. "It is very rare that successful brands arise out of instinct alone." Davis & Baldwin page.193 This will definitely benefit me in the long run. Modeling is always going to be my number one go to passion that I will always peruse. I hope more than ever to get on to Americas next top model and also to be a Victoria Secret cover model. Acting and singing are also two more of my passions that I love and want to in some ways peruse in the long run. If any thing I really want my name to be in the fashion industry in some way shape or fashion. I also look to peruse my dream of designing my own line of clothing. My main goal is to make every girl in the world to feel and look beautiful at all times.  At the end of the day I hope to always be a successful CEO and entrepreneur and if anything I would love to be able to take care of my mother and myself. I want to be able to live comfortably and will always continue to strive for bigger and better things. Every agency or structure within a company is different and structures tend to reflect how those running the company prioritise the ‘brand’." Davis & Baldwin page.195

Final: Statement Of Your Specialty

My specialty consists mainly of modeling and acting. I enjoy so much to walk down the runway and show off my skills as far as what certain photographers want to see. It is very important for me to utilize my skills as a model. I am very good at walking down the runway. I also have a very distinct and unique look that I am proud to say makes me special and separates me from other models. I also love to act. I feel like the two different specialties are what drives me to this certain way of life. I am not scared to be me front of people and am very intelligent when it comes to making people happy and giving a client what they want and need. My favorite part of my special skills is that I can use all of my skills to help me do what I want to do and what I love to do."Brand experience is how the audience reacts to a brand at any contact point, and it is the basis of consumer dialogue with the brand." Davis & Baldwin page.162  I feel that as long as I continue to progress my skills I will soon be able to showcase my talent and actually be able o do the things that I love to do. Also it is very important for me to gain more knowledge about my craft. I know that with a couple more years of practice that I will be able to fully and very seriously peruse my all time dream of being a supermodel and a well-known actress. I will always keep striving to become everything that I want to be. My look is unique and I am more than capable of making a big impact of the world of modeling and acting. I love to do these things and I know that I am able to get better at every step of the way. "Some companies will plot their marketing mix on a simple graph to see if it overlaps either with a competitor or, more seriously, with one of their own products." Davis & Baldwin page.160

Final: Top 5 Talents

My top five talents include modeling, acting, singing, photography and most importantly designing clothing. I especially take a lot of pride in modeling. I have always wanted to be a model and I know more than anything that this is what I want to do with my life. I also know that the harder I try the more likely it will be that I will be able to get all of the things that  I know that I want and need out of life. My next favorite talent has a lot to do with acting. I enjoy performing in front of an audience and I love to capture myself of camera. I have always been very excited to get in front of people and giving a top performance in front of people. I do enjoy singing and I feel like I could be partially successful as a singer and as a musician. I have always been a pretty good photographer and I really do enjoy taking pictures of things such as nature and other things like other models and landscaping scenery. "Brands like to know what is popular to help them plan their direction." -Davis & Baldwin page.128 I feel like I would always have been an excellent designer of clothes and of other fashion items. It is so important to me to have all of the outside support and ideas, and I am very excited to see the types of things that I will possible be able to accomplish. I hope that in the near future I having these talents will be able to help me get to where I need to be. I know also that a lot of these talents are going to someday be fully beneficial to what I am trying to do with my life. I also hope to learn and find new talents in the near future. I will always be trying to learn new things. "Many businesses are happy to sell known products to people they already do business with, and there are examples of companies who have essentially done this for hundreds of years..." -Davis & Baldwin page.127

Final: Talents

My talents are modeling which I have now been doing for 2 years. I also cheered in High School freshmen year all the way to my junior year. I am very flexible when it comes to cheer to the point with my weight, they made me the flyer. I was always free spirited so they made me team captain. Growing up in the church I was always expected to always serve God and do work within the church. With that being said, I decided to join the youth and adult choir, meaning I have some nice vocals. Now when it came to my religion, worshiping the Lord in dance has always been a part of me. So putting on different “costumes/outfits” would happen and we would dance to the music, ministering to the congregation. My other talents are multitasking and making sure that things are organized. With being in school I have gained more talents and aspiring talents like Photoshop and photography. With me just learning these talents, I am going to put that into my future career. I have also learned how to fashion sketch which is pretty much the main reason for me being here, but when I realized that it was for the whole management aspect of it made me even more interested to learn more talents."The recognition factor is important to brand owners because it often takes precedence over factors such as price."-Davis and Baldwin page.17. My last talent is D.I.Y a lot of my beauty care products because I cannot just put anything on my face. With that being said that is going to be a part of my career goals and plans. I love the fact of knowing what goes on my skin and knowing how the product would work. Knowing everything precisely when it comes to the skin is very important because you can’t just want any old product on the skin. I love enhancing my talents making room for more. "Different writing specialisms require different talents – writing an ad requires different skills to writing a brochure, or developing brand names. Some agencies also have ‘content’ teams, which work closely with information architects to map the content of websites."-Davis and Baldwin page.203

Final: Passions

My passions in life are to as soon as possible become an officer in the army. That is what I would love to do for the next 8 to 10 years. I know that by joining the army I will be able to do so much more things that I want to do in life. My next couple of aspirations I have in life are to get my own multi-fashion company which I have already started and have called G.I.N.I (Gabrielle Imani-Marie Nix Incorporated) this is my “Boss” company. I would also like to still become a very successful model/actress. I will always like to follow my dream as a model and I know with the other things I am doing that it is very possible and likely that I can accomplish this. I also want to start my very own line of clothing that I have called “Goddess Creations” I will always be trying to make all girls thought the world feel beautiful. And my last and most important passion in life is to be able to be well off enough to be able to take care of my family and to be able to remain secure with my career. The brand should offer differentiation, based on an understanding of what the audience wants, and a passion and belief in the product or service."-Davis and Baldwin page.57. As long as can stay focused and remain in tuned with everything else that goes on in the world I will be able to accomplish all my goals. I have a very serious passion for becoming wealthy not rich. I want to always be able to buy the things that I need at any given moment and I would like to always remain with a strong sense of security when it comes to my financial state. All of these things are in my reach and can all be obtained as long as I stay in tuned with the things going on in the world. "Consumer brands may have more of an intimacy or heartfelt connection with the customer, such as someone who has a passion for Nike trainers."-Davis and Baldwin page.114

Final: Core Values

What really matters to me a brand in the modeling industry is changing the world making sure every girl knows that they are beautiful. What really matters to me is hitting all runways and become a high-end print model. I want to know that I accomplished something and all my goals in life. When it comes to branding myself means a lot when it comes to specifics in the in the industry just hitting my goal would mean the world to me.  What matters to me is meeting every goal possible that I need."The core brand values may be compromised, driving away those loyal to the brand. Or the change may create a disconnection in the mind of the audience, giving competitors an opportunity to step in."- David and Baldwin M. page.48 Work hard Play hard will always get you far because knowing “what matters to me” should always be the question to in life and as life is going on, make a checklist and as your life progress, and when you find out what matters to you then your life and goals have already succeeded. "The rebrand helped us focus on our core values. It did not change them."- David and Baldwin M. page.67.

Final: Primary "Product"

As a model, I tend to clients making sure I am the exact replica of the “ideal” model. For example, in the modeling industry many designers or modeling agencies need their models “girls” a specific height. In my case with me being 5 foot 5 sometimes in the industry I have to lie at times and tell them while applying or open call that my height is 5 foot 8 in heels just so I can portray for my forte. Now in this lifestyle of cameras and runways comes hair and makeup artists. I have worked with many hair and makeup teams in my past and till this day I am meeting more and more due to what I am trying to become. I have recently worked with a celebrity makeup artist last week for the AIMBFW for school. “It is the emotional cornerstone for both the organisation and the product being sold. Design connects the audience to the brand.” -Davis & Baldwin page.8  Just by being his temporary model for the occasion, it has brought some more attention to me knowing that I would love to be a model sponsor for a high-end cosmetics line. I have always wanted to be in pageants and runways but I know that I need to see myself little more. So this is why I love meeting different and unique stylists because it gets you as a “Brand” out there on the market. I also have many modeling websites to also brand myself as an aspiring model. I did get spammed for the first time ever in my life because I thought they were a legit photography team and they sent me a fake MoneyGram having me think that I was going to be doing a project for them. But it was all so sketchy because I never worked with them so how would they know me as a branding modeling when I never worked for them. So things like that when it comes to branding myself, I need to look for. "Brands and branding have always been hugely influenced by graphic designers. The visual interpretation and translation of brands to an audience is a fundamental element of branding” -Davis & Baldwin page.8

Week 9 EOC: How has Fashion,Creativity and Design changed me

....I love everything about fashion. The fact that I could not go to the school I wanted to, I had to choose The Art Institute of Las Vegas. When I heard that they had a fashion program that changed my whole perspective on this school. I was really hoping that this school at the time had fashion design because that was my whole set mind when it came to a fashion classes or main subject of fashion. When I realized that I was taking the management part of it, I actually was super happy because I was going to learn the management of managing my own company; breaking all things down to target markets to strategies to a successful business. I have learned so much just from coming to school, classes, and participating in fashion things. Fashion, creativity, and design have helped me as a whole and fashion student. Being here at AILV has taught me a lot about myself as a person and student. Fashion itself is why my degree will be outstanding because this school provides the best. According to the design book it states; aims to inspire and empower designers by helping them to develop their personal creativity and use it as a tool to achieve design goals. It also states that creativity is a tool available to anyone who understands its components and teach students to identify and then seek out or avoid the personal and environmental factors that promote or inhibit their own creativity.

Week 7 EOC: Tim Horton

The chain's first store opened in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario, under the name "Tim Horton Donuts"; the name was later abbreviated to "Tim Horton's" and then changed to "Tim Hortons". The business was founded by Miles G. Tim Horton, who played in the National Hockey League from 1949 until his death in a car accident in 1974. Soon after Horton opened the store, he met Ron Joyce, a former Hamilton police constable. In 1965, Joyce took over the fledgling Tim Horton Donut Shop on Ottawa Street North in Hamilton. By 1967, after he had opened up two more stores, he and Tim Horton became full partners in the business. Upon Horton's death in 1974, Joyce bought out the Horton family's shares for $1 million and took over as sole owner of the existing chain of forty stores. Joyce expanded the chain quickly and aggressively in geography and in product selection. The 500th store opened in 1991. Ron Joyce's aggressive expansion of the Tim Hortons business resulted in major changes to the Canadian coffee and doughnut restaurant market. Many independent doughnut shops and small chains were driven out of business, while Canada's per-capita ratio of doughnut shops surpassed those of all other countries. By the 1990s, the company name had changed to The TDL Group Ltd. This was an effort by the company to diversify the business, removing the primary emphasis on doughnuts, and continuing the expansion of the menu options as consumer tastes broadened. The removal of the apostrophe allowed the company to have one common sign image across Canada. "Tim Horton has outlets located on at least seven Canadian Forces Bases". Everyone loves a good donuts and coffee every now-and-them. In my opinion I feel like this business should be in the US because they have yummy looking products. According to twitter, Last Thursday the company tweeted, “Excited to announce we're joining a new global company to help us grow & share a taste of Tims with more people”.

The Tim Horton company decided t start The Children's Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to providing a fun-filled camp environment for children from economically disadvantaged homes. It was founded by Ron Joyce, Co-Founder of Tim Hortons, in honour of his friend and National Hockey League star, Tim Horton, who died in a car accident in 1974.

Week 6 EOC: Advertising on Linkedln

Using Linkedln when it comes to marketing and advertising is a very good aspect when it comes to promoting who you are and what you do in the professional business. Me personally I love this social media option and glad it has got brought in the marketing industry because I feel that it’s a digital resume. Linkedin is not just some ordinary social media website because it’s for professional people trying to get “linkedin” with other business people. Someone who is into arts such as music, graphic designing, or even designing would use Linkedin so promote his or her’s talent. Just like any social media website, they are not always safe but the person can control what goes on within their social media lines. Linkedlin I very professional so nothing but business people add you, but the problem with that is because you don’t know who is adding you. In class my FRM teacher Frank Pinto says, “One day I asked a guy that goes to AILV did he have a business card and he said yes but he asked for his LInkedin.” I had wondered why he said that or why he say, “I do not add students unless they are graduates.” According to Linkedin their LinkedIn Advertising Plan Outline is:
  • · A LinkedIn account to use LinkedIn advertising. While you don’t need a completed profile or company page if you are linking to your website in your ad, having both are good for your overall online presence.
  • · A definition of your ideal customer for ad targeting purposes.
  • · A landing page customized for the product or service you are advertising targeted to your ideal customer.
  • ·  An idea of how you want your ad to look by researching other ads on LinkedIn.
  • · Strong headlines, descriptions, and images for your LinkedIn ad variations.
  • ·  Time to review your ad variations to only use the ones with the best conversion rates.
  • · Time to measure your results to determine if LinkedIn ads are right for your business.

Week 6 EOC: Ferguson and Marketing

A police officer brutally shot Michael Brown on a street in Ferguson, Missouri, on his hands in the air to show he was unarmed. When the officer opened fire, authorities counter that Brown attacked the officer in his car and tried to take his gun. The St. Louis suburb of 21,000 was wracked by violence as protesters outraged over the 18 year old shooting faced off with police. Although there were reports that some demonstrations were peaceful -- protesters held up their hands, as Brown reportedly did, and others demanded a fair inquiry, chanting, "No justice, No peace”. There were also reports of fires, looting, vandalism and attacks on police officers. In my opinion in lower-class neighborhood, they should be trying to bring justice and peace to make a safer community. Shooting now-a-days is the highest crime rate in the United States especially in lower-class community’s. I feel that everyone that is taking pictures are that are into “no justice no peace”. Federal civil rights investigators and the FBI carry out their own inquiry into the case. Tensions are running high in Ferguson, where there's a history of distrust between the predominately black community and the largely white police force. In my opinion because of all of the black crime back in the day and the past, African Americans are going to feel threatened by white people, especially police officers because it all go back to racial province. According to reporters they state that, “Brown was African-American. Police have not identified the shooter, but a witness told CNN on Tuesday that the officer who opened fire is a Caucasian male.” They also state that “The dispute between distraught Ferguson residents and police isn't likely to be settled soon.” I feel that It needs to be settled just so the community know that they are safe and that don’t have to worry about getting shot unharmed.  The story itself has been torn up in so many ways. I pray the blessing on Ferguson and that the crime stops and everything gets settled with the case so those can be at peace.

Week 5 Midterm: Networking in the United States

There are many positive and negative aspects to networking in the United States. On the positive side, networking brings in a lot of new faces and connections. Having good connections also helps out business and getting more exposure and or help from other outside parties. The more networking you do, the more likely you will have a popular and successful business.  There are so many ways to network with people using social such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Blogger.  There are also such things as certain parties that you can attend to network with people, such as an elegant formal party after a fashion show etc.” It is a sign of how deeply and widely social networking companies have penetrated the lives of ordinary people and, in turn, transformed the ways in which people communicate, authorities govern and companies sell things.”  -SOMINI SENGUPTA.

On the negative side the more people that you network with will also become confusing on who’s who. Also the more people the more likely you are going to meet a shady dishonest person whose only intention is to use or scam you. It also is not great for this generation coming up because of all the bad predictors and “catfish” people. People can hack into your social media’s and does harm to your information, better yet get some of your private information. Another reason networking can be a bad thing because of cyber bulling.
1. Nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen more than once.
2. 70% of students report seeing frequent bullying online. Filling up your friends' Facebook feeds with positive posts instead of negative ones can boost school-wide morale. Start a Facebook page for students to submit positive acts they see in school to promote a culture of positivity on and offline.
3. Over 80% of teens use a cell phone regularly, making it the most common medium for cyber bullying.
4. 68% of teens agree that cyber bullying is a serious problem.
5. 81% of young people think bullying online is easier to get away with than bullying in person.

Week 4 EOC: McDonalds and Hot Coffee

If you were heard that and elderly women got burned from McDonald’s coffee, what would you do? Continue buying or ignore the fact? And because she go rewarded so much money, would you use that to bash the situation? This all happen in reality when and elderly lady in Albuquerque by the name of Stella Liebeck bought a cup of coffee in the drive thru at McDonald’s and spilled the cup on her lap. When reporters captured data about the incident, the coffee was overly hot. The temperature on a daily workday should be at 180 to 190 degrees Fahrenheit. According to Ms. Liebeck she is indeed not in it for the money but of course people who knew she got rewarded such a large amount wondered how it all happened. People such as TV reporters, cartoons, and TV shows such as Seinfeld al made jokes and comments referring to the coffee incident. When it came down to court time with Stella the evidence that’s satiated were very interesting like;
  • McDonald’s operations manual required the franchisee to hold its coffee at 180 to 190 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Coffee at that temperature, if spilled, causes third-degree burns in three to seven seconds
  • McDonald’s admitted it had known about the risk of serious burns from its scalding hot coffee for more than 10 years. The risk had repeatedly been brought to its attention through numerous other claims and suits.
  • McDonald’s quality assurance manager testified that McDonald’s coffee, at the temperature at which it was poured into Styrofoam cups, was not fit for consumption because it would burn the mouth and throat.
  • McDonald’s admitted it did not warn customers of the nature and extent of this risk and could offer no explanation as to why it did not.
The lady was happy with what the jury was intend to reward her with which was $20,000 to cover the injury between her legs which bothered McDonald’s because they ever gave more than $800 before. Later as the time went while this was still the “hot topic”, she died. According to the video she died because all the pain and compassion going on. She felt as if she was being bashed about the whole trail, jury, verdict, and just everyone in general.

EOC Week 3: How To Make It In America

v  What’s your superpower? What do you do better than anyone else?

Answer: Ben and Cam’s super power was to have ambition about what they were trying to sell/make as their own product or brand for their jeans. What they do better than anyone is go out and keep trying no matter the outcome was. They always took their ambition to the next level making things work to get their jeans out there on the market.

v  What do people frequently compliments you on or praise you for?

Answer: What others frequently compliment or praise when it comes to ben and Cam they got compliments on how they never gave up and anyone they went to see what can be done to get there jean line started always either came with something good for them or something bad.

v  What adjectives do people consistently use to describe you –
v  perhaps when they’re introducing you to others?

Answer: When it comes to the best friends Cam and Ben some people may have seen them as a little show ad unorganized because they didn't bring anything to the manufacturing company to even get things started, but that was in the begging of the show. As time progress they got better. Some may classify them as very ambitious because they never gave up and they always came up with plans or some “off the wall” just to make their “under construction line started”.

v  What energizes or ignites you? What are your true passions?

Answer: What energizes or ignites they boys are the fact that they know with a little more help; guides, they can make their jean collection legit and even worth being on the market for people to buy. Ben and Cam's true passion is jeans (their brand to be). I know they will be a success.

Week 2 EOC: More In America

For today episode of How to Make It in America I love how everything was about confidence. For today’s show they guys wanted to start their own Jean line but when they went to the manufacturing company, they guys was not ready for what was being asked, instead they were to determine to get their jean line/collection on the roll. When they guy that worked there asked did they have a plan for the jean line or some type of organizational structure to be presented. They did not have anything to bring to the table so as a company the guy who worked at the manufacturer didn’t know what to tell them but gave the men harsh but positive critiques. What they boys should have done was had some type of plan , them made some type of samples so when it’s being presented to a company you look and seem as professional as possible. What the boy do, do right was not giving up and taking what the other man said and turned it into something positive.
